Daphne’s 525 hosts event to benefit The Fuller Center for Housing

Daphne’s 525 is hosting Fashion with a Purpose Feb. 22. The event is a fashion show dedicated to benefitting The Fuller Center for Housing.

Daphne’s 525 has been located in downtown Macon for six years and is owned and run by Aprill and Dennis Maxwell.  Daphne’s 525 carries women’s clothing and specializes in screen printing and embroidery. The Maxwells also share a passion for philanthropy.

“One of the things we want to do as this year goes on is actually give back to the community that has given so much to us,” Dennis Maxwell said.

Aprill Maxwell named the boutique after her mother, Daphne, and her mother’s birthday, May 25.  Aprill Maxwell said her inspiration for the fashion show, as well as the many ways she and her husband work to help others, comes from her mother’s philanthropic spirit.

“My mom was a fashionista, but she had a heart of gold,” Aprill Maxwell said. “[Dennis’] mom as well. They have big hearts, so in turn, they created children with big hearts.”

The Maxwells’ goal for Fashion with a Purpose is not only to raise money for The Fuller Center but to inform others about the organization and the work being done in Macon.

The Fuller Center for Housing is a global non-profit organization that focuses on the elimination of poverty housing. Macon, as well as many other local communities partner with The Fuller Center in order to support the building and repairing of homes for low-income members of the community. They intend to turn the fashion show into an annual event that will grow and gain sponsors and supporters to give back to the Macon community.

“It’s going to be the first, but not the last time we do it,” Dennis Maxwell said.

The show will spotlight members of the Macon community, such as Scott Mitchell from Travis Jean Emporium who will be the emcee. Outfits are being donated by Daphne’s 525 and Frankie’s Boutique, another downtown Macon boutique.

Models for the show include members of the Macon community as well as pageant winners and Little Miss and Mr. Cherry Blossom.

Models will be assisted with hair and makeup by stylists from Eche Salon.

Guests can enjoy the music of local deejay Brandon Christopher and catering provided by Grow, a Macon restaurant that focuses on fresh, locally grown food.

Tickets for the event are $25.

When: 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22
