Downtown to host First Friday Art Crawl

The 567 Center for Renewal is hosting an art crawl on March 1 that will feature later hours for art-loving night owls.

As part of March’s First Friday event, the art crawl will cover five art galleries in the historic downtown area: Travis Jean Emporium, Macon Arts Alliance, the 567 Center for Renewal, Ampersand Guild and Startup Studios.

The Travis Jean Emporium, located at 522 Cherry Street will feature art created by local artist Dina Deason. The gallery opens at 5 p.m. and closes at 9 p.m.

The Macon Art Alliance will be holding a First Friday reception for Tea Garden, an exhibit for botanically themed art, as well as light refreshments. Similar to the Travis Jean Emporium, the Macon Art Alliance’s gallery, located at 486 First Street, opens at 5 p.m. but instead closes at 8 p.m.

The next stop on the art crawl is the 567 Center for Renewal, located at 456 First Street, will be showcasing art created by Bibb County Schools’ students. The art to be featured is from students ranging from elementary to high school to celebrate Youth Art Month. In addition to the art and refreshments, Central High School’s Chamber Ensemble will be providing music from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This gallery will run from  6-9 p.m.

After checking out student art, the crawl continues to the Ampersand Guild at 382 Cherry Street. This gallery will be featuring live painting as well as an open gallery from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and.

The fifth gallery to open will be Startup Studios, located at 1055 Riverside Drive. During the art crawl, there will be live glassblowing demonstrations at the gallery, as well as walk-in workshops provided by Blazing Paddles Studio’s Bryan Beck. In addition, the artists at Startup Studio will be available to answer any questions one may have about their work. The gallery opens at 8 p.m. and closes at midnight.

Admission to the art crawl is free for anybody who wants to join in on the fun so be sure to bring a friend.

Macon Art Alliance (486 First St.) 5-8 p.m.

567 Center for Renewal (456 First St.) 6-9 p.m.

Ampersand Guild (382 Cherry St.) 7-9 p.m.

Startup Studios (1055 Riverside Drive) 8 p.m.-midnight
