Most outdoor public pools have closed for cooler weather which could free up pool, spa and water recreation workers to take advantage of a free course in environmental health.

The Macon-Bibb County Health Department is offering training Friday from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at 171 Emery Highway.

In this first-time opportunity, the North Central Health District’s Pool Operator Instructor and the health department’s environmental health staff will update workers on the latest rules, regulations and requirements.

The training will include discussion of the most frequent violations, common hazards, pool inspection scheduling, safety tips and water chemistry.

The CDC warns of several serious illnesses and conditions such as diarrhea, respiratory ailments and rashes that can be picked up from the water if a pool or spa is not properly maintained.

No RSVP is required for the class, but preregistration is available by calling 478-749-0106 or by completing the online registration form.
