Top 5 things to do in Macon this holiday season

With the holidays just around the corner, it seems like the right time to make some gingerbread houses and spend time with our loved ones. Here are the top five ways to spread the holiday cheer here in Middle Georgia this holiday season.

  • The Cider Social: Cider and Pie Pairings, Cake Walk & More — Nov. 23

The Society Garden located in the Ingleside district here in Macon is holding a cider social on Nov. 23 from noon to midnight. According to their Facebook event, they claim that at this event you can “come taste some of the best ciders in the land.” They will be having a magic show for kids at a time that is yet to be determined, and an old fashioned cake-walk where you get the chance to win a cake. Big Mike and the Booty Papas, a band based here in Macon, will also be performing, making it a fun-filled fall day for the family to enjoy!

  • Main Street Christmas Light Extravaganza 2019 — Nov. 29

The annual Main Street Christmas Light Extravaganza presented by Northway Church will be coming back to Downtown Macon on Nov. 29 and will be here to stay until Jan. 3! The light show kicks off on Friday, Nov. 29 with a live concert by the Macon Pops, according to the event page. Beginning Saturday, Nov. 30, the lights come on every night at 6 p.m. and stay on until 10 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to take a stroll downtown and enjoy the scenery and ambiance of being downtown! You will have a chance to enjoy candy cane lanes, illuminated arches, and twinkling trees while enjoying the shops and restaurants of downtown Macon.

  • Carriage Rides Under The Lights — Dec. 6

Raines Carriage is offering carriage rides around Downtown Macon in collaboration with the Main Street Christmas Light Extravaganza where you get the chance to experience the 500,000 lights for the festival!

These rides will be available on Dec. 6-8, 13-15 and 20-22 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The rides will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. They depart from the turnaround near the fountain at Third Street and Cherry Street.

Carriage rides are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Cash and card are accepted. If you pay with card, there is an additional $1 processing fee.

  • Christmas Jam with Magnolia Moon and Friends — Dec. 7

The Society Garden will be hosting a Christmas Jam on Dec. 7 from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. for Maconites to get into the holiday spirit. They will have a human snow globe that you can go inside for pictures, and Santa will be making a special appearance that evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to meet and take pictures with all of those with holiday cheer!

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., they will be having a campfire jam with a s’mores bar for everyone to enjoy before Magnolia Moon and their friends take on the stage to perform that night. Gather your friends and family to come and enjoy this event!

  • Christmas in Macon — Dec. 14

Mark your calendars for Dec. 14 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on First Street to celebrate the holidays downtown Macon’s annual holiday festival – Christmas in Downtown!

Enjoy a Macon Makers Market on First Street, music, snow, free pictures with Santa in the Cellar at Just Tap’d Macon, music, crafts, and more.

This event is free and open to the public.
