International Women’s Day: Health & Beauty Expo Event

Macon Housing Authority: Resident Initiative, Felton Homes and Divine Presence Worship Center will be sponsoring a collaborative event titled, “International Women’s Day: Health & Beauty Expo,” at Buck Melton Community Center on March 7.

International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that happens every year on March 8. In Macon, it has been celebrated every year on the first Saturday of March since 2013.

“It is an event that empowers women, which lets them know that they can do anything they reach to do,” Macon Housing Authority property manager June Martin said.

The event’s purpose is to “celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women,” according to internationalwomensday.com.

This year, the event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and highlights include: Healthy Cooking Demos, Aromatherapy, Beauty Makeovers, Exercise Demonstrations, Interactive Health Forums, Health Screenings and Giveaways.

“Every year we do something a little different. Last year we did a slideshow on different women that have done different, successful things throughout the years,” Martin said.

The event will have information with cooking demonstrations, entrepreneurs to inform the audience about their entrepreneurship, nail polishing done by volunteers, medical workers to take volunteers’ blood pressure, and other services. There will also be food and free drawings, according to Martin.

“It is important that people understand and realize that there is no limit to what can be done if you pursue your dreams,” Martin said.

According to Martin, some women have decided to return to school as a result of this event.

This event is free and open to the public.
